About This Tool

PDF Watermark is a free, browser-based utility for stamping a custom text watermark on every page of a PDF document. Whether you need to mark a draft as "DRAFT", brand a report with your company name, or stamp sensitive material as "CONFIDENTIAL", this tool handles it in seconds. Powered by pdf-lib, the entire watermarking process runs locally inside your browser tab — your file is never uploaded to a server, never indexed, and never seen by anyone but you.

The tool exposes four key controls: a 9-grid position selector (corners, edges, and the center of the page), an opacity slider (5%–100%) for subtle background marks or bold foreground stamps, a font-size slider (12pt–120pt) for anything from a tiny corner notice to a giant diagonal banner feel, and a color picker for any shade you need. Defaults are pre-configured for the most common case — a 30%-opacity red "CONFIDENTIAL" stamp in the page center — so you can get a usable result with zero tweaking.

There's no signup, no email, no daily limit, and no watermark added by us. The output PDF keeps the same page count, the same page sizes, and the same text content as the input; only a semi-transparent text layer is drawn on top of every page. Maximum file size is 50 MB, which comfortably covers reports, ebooks, contracts, and presentations. For best fidelity, start with a PDF that has selectable text (not a scanned image) — text-based PDFs watermark cleanly without re-encoding the page.

How to Use

  1. Upload your PDF — click "Choose PDF" and pick any PDF up to 50 MB. The filename appears next to the button once loaded.
  2. Configure the watermark — type your watermark text, pick a position from the 9-grid, drag the opacity and size sliders, and choose a color.
  3. Click "Add Watermark & Download" — the tool processes every page in your browser and saves the watermarked PDF to your device.

Common Use Cases

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the watermark go on every page? Yes — the same watermark text, position, opacity, size, and color is stamped on every page of the document automatically. There is no per-page control in this tool.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server? No. Everything runs inside your browser using pdf-lib loaded as an ES module. The file is read with the FileReader API, processed with pdf-lib, and the result is saved via a Blob download — your document never leaves your device.

Can I use a logo or image as the watermark? Not in this tool. The current version supports text-only watermarks, which is what the vast majority of users need. For image-based watermarks, convert your logo to text or use a separate tool.

Will the watermark be searchable / selectable as text? The watermark is drawn as a regular text draw operation in pdf-lib, so it is real text in the PDF — it can be selected, copied, and searched like any other text, and it scales cleanly with the page.
